Visiting Gourmet Burger in Birmingham

Spent the evening in Brindley Place, Birmingham yesterday, enjoying some food and drink overlooking the canals. We ended up visiting “Gourmet Burger” – on the site of the old “Pitstop” bar. There was a nice atmosphere in the place and the food was delicious, although I would have liked my “Milano” burger (“Super Sized” Beef Burger with Green Pesto and Italian Cheese) a little warmer. The “hand cut chips” were scrummy too. Service was friendly if not very efficient. The meal for 2 with a bottle of wine came to £27.

Leeroy Jenkins

Have you come across the phenonomenon that is Leeroy Jenkins yet?
My man Woz introduced it to me and haven’t stopped laughing yet!
Anybody who gets their own Wikipedia entry must be some sort of hero!
If you’re into on-line gaming or just enjoy plain stupidity, then take a look at the video to see what it’s all about.

Vodafone Customer Care Sucks!

Vodafone have incorrectly charged me for some mobile telephony services. Having tried to reach Vodafone Customer Care by e-mail twice in the past week (both times receiving an automatic response but nothing afterwards) and being kept on-hold for in excess of 45 minutes both times when calling their telephone line – I’ve come to the conclusion that Vodafone Customer Care sucks!

So whilst I wait on-hold again (in excess of 50 mins as I write this – but I won’t give up! The record, held by SKY, of 62 minutes on-hold is in sight!) I thought I’d make a blog-entry venting my spleen.

A quick Google on the subject brings up some amusing (you’ve got to laugh or you’d cry) anecdotes from other people on the subject too.

My course of action? Well I’m cancelling my Direct Debit payment. I’m sure somebody from Vodafone will contact me quickly enough if I don’t pay my bill…

Slowest Man on Earth

Here’s a “Time Lapse” video that I found amusing of the slowest man on Earth…

10mb Broadband

My ISP, Telewest Blueyonder, contacted me today to advise that my 4mb Cable Modem connection had now been increased in speed to 10mb. Price remains the same at £35/month.

10mb! The speeds I’m experiencing are actually closer to 8mb, but I’m not grumbling. These are the sorts of speeds I couldn’t even begin to imagine when using a 1200/300bps Modem Connection to dial-up to FidoNet Bulletin Boards as a kid, speeds I knew only large ISP’s used when I upgraded from 33kbps Modem to 128kps ISDN 2e as a young man, and speeds I thought I’d never experience without moving to somewhere like Hong Kong as an adult!

I’m starting to sound like one of those middle age IT Managers who lecture me on how they used ticker tape and mainframes as a youngster, but I don’t care – it’s an exciting time to be a geek.
