How to Fix a very slow Windows 7 installation

I too had to post a thanks. I was worried something was wrong with my PC. I replaced the DVD-drive, replaced SATA-cable, tried changing from AHCI to IDE, copied DVD to USB, etc.. Nothing i tried worked.. But this saved my day!! Big thank you for this easy fix!

THANK YOU so much!!! This has been driving me nuts for a full week! Like others, I'd tried new optical disks & drives, new Harddisks, cabels and was even about to try different RAM. What surprised me when I read you method was that I'd even flashed the Bios to the latest version and this option was not turn off by default, which considering the issues, I would have thought Asus might have implemented. Hey, I was hoping this would help. Got into my laptop's BIOS but I can't seem to find the option to turn off the floppy drive. What do I do? Any suggestions? I'm fresh installing win 7 64 bit on an HP G62 laptop.

Benjamin, have you checked to see if there is a BIOS upgrade available for your PC? Could be worth checking out first.

This was the n-th time i did a USB install, stumbled upon this problem for the first time though! Disabled the floppy drive and it's as fast as it should be - thanks a lot! :)

It works for me too :) but Installation Extremely Slow its Hangs during Expanding WindowsFiles ... I tried lots of branded flash drive but no luck at all.. then i remember i have a generic flash drive and it works like a charm:)

I wish my Vaio's BIOS had more option to fiddle with. Install now won't even get to the first screen anymore...

I'm installing Windows 7, but it takes long time for each and every step. First of all, When I press F2, It takes long time to open BIOS screen. I'm wasting my time in installing OS. Hi John. It sounds like you may either have a PC Memory (RAM) problem or a Hard Disk issue. Either way, I'd suggest seeking out your local computer repair outlet for a full diagnostic and advice. Good luck!

yes indeed this helps in a way or another but every time when you install a windows from usb,always but always check in bios if you have usb 2.0 controler enabled and select the high speed option 480mbs

Hi Richard. Thought I would try this on my gigabyte ma77ot-ud3 bios settings as I had same problem before I came across this site. Amazing mate. Thanks so much. Worked a treat. 21 years I have been fixing pci and never dreamed a 1.44 floppy being turned on in bios settings would make a usb install so slow. Your a legend mate. I tried everything to solve this problem, had already taken the drive disks because usually taken forever, but with your post, I began to think about what he said and went to see the configs, and I remembered that he had spent a HDD SATA 2 for one sATA 1, so I disabled the sata controller 2 and began installing normally. Thank you so much! Sorry for a bad english, i'm portuguese. my pc was na Compaq pressario SR5502PT.

Hi, Raju. Be aware that Windows 7 has already gone past the Microsoft End of Mainstream Support date (Jan 13, 2015). See https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/13853/windows-lifecycle-fact-sheet. If you're still having issues installing Windows 7, it may be worth exploring installing Windows 10.

Thanks a ton bro.. you are a life saver. Can you alao help why my 500gb hardisk is only showing approx 300 gb with 100 MB system reserved. Only allwoing partition to be created for 300 gb. Not even allwoing to create an extended to for partition.

As for your 500gb HDD problem, firstly I'd check the drive model number via a Google search to check it is definitely 500GB and not a 300GB model. Secondly, I'd delete all the existing partitions and format the drive from scratch. Let us know how you get on!

Wish it helped me :/ msi motherboard disabled floppy and still takes 40 minutes for blue "setup is starting " window and 30 minutes to delete a partition

unfortunatly this doesn't work for all in my HP motherboard it takes 2 hours just to come to the first screen something about the instalation trying to access drives that dont exist I'm desperatly trying to find a way to burn the instalation image on the hard disk directly and skip the all instalation process

in my case it was a usb 3 hub connected to the computer. the usb hub had only a usb mic connected to it. once the usb hub was disconnected windows installation became very fast.
