A in-law recently asked me to wipe and re-build their aging Advent 7240 laptop computer. The machine is obsolete, albeit perfectly usable running Windows 98SE, but the Recovery and Drivers CD’s had long since been lost.
Always wearing my “Green” hat, I can never pass up the opportunity to make some old hardware useable again – so I threw on my “I AM ENGINEER” T-Shirt and got stuck in.
It took me a little while to track down the specifications and the drivers to enable the rebuild, so to save time for anyone else who wants to re-build an Advent 7240 Laptop – here are a few notes along with links to download the drivers which I’ve stored for public download on Windows Live Skydrive.
- The Advent 7240 is a re-badged Asus L7200.
- The Video Card is a Silicon Motion Lynx3DM 4MB. You can find the Win98SE drivers here.
- The Sound card is a Yamaha OPL3. You can find the Win98SE drivers here.
- The internal Modem is a PCTel Inc – HSP MicroModem 56. You can find the Win98SE drivers here.
