Headspace – Meditation and Mindfulness Made Simple

Headspace-Tubblog Friday Favourite by Richard Tubb

Every Friday I share one of my favourite finds of the week — a website, tool or an app that has impressed me.

My Friday Favourite this week is Headspace – Meditation and Mindfulness Made Simple.

What is it?

Headspace is an app that provides you with guided meditations.

How can it help me?

After conducting dozens of interviews with some of the most successful business leaders within the IT industry on my TubbTalk Podcast, I can tell you the vast majority of those high achievers share one thing in common – they all meditate.

I’ve been using mindfulness and meditation as part of my daily routine for around four years now, and I don’t think it is a coincidence that it’s coincided with an increase in my emotional intelligence and in more contentment in my personal and professional life.

If all that sounds a bit “woo woo” to you, then I totally understand — before I started meditating, I didn’t believe in any of this either. But the results are there!

Headspace is an app that helps introduce you to meditation. The Basics Pack offers you a guided meditation — just make yourself comfortable, hit play, close your eyes and listen to the instructions.

Headspace - What is Meditation?I’m not going to try to explain how meditation works (the app does that job a lot better than I can) but suffice to say that if you stick with it for ten days, you’ll notice the results. Think of it as a reboot or defrag for your brain! You can read more about the science behind meditation in Headspace’s article “What is Meditation“.

Once you become accustomed to the practice of meditation, Headspace offers a number of specialist packs, including health, work, sport, birth, death and many more. You can use these to help you with specific issues.

I now use Headspace’s “Everyday Headspace” (each day has a different theme) for 15-minutes every morning. I also use Headspace to close down my working day for 5-mins at the end of every day.

Meditation has probably been the number one thing that has helped me gain control, and stay in control, of my life. I highly recommend you try Headspace, even if you’re a sceptic (as I was!).
